Sonos One Gen 2 - Review

(Image: © Sonos)

The Sonos One Gen 2 is a small cordless speaker that can be used alone or added to the setup of your Sonos sound bar as a surround speaker. It has excellent support for Alexa and Google Assistant, an Ethernet port if you want to connect it to your home network, and an app with bass and slider sliders. It also has Trueplay tuning, so it can adjust its audio performance to the room it is in. However, it strives to be strong and has high-quality artistic presses. It should also reduce stereo content in mono, which does not provide much immersive sound.

Style

The Sonos One is a small-sized speaker. It is designed to sit upright on your desk and comes in two different colors: 'Black' and 'White'. You can also pair this speaker with Sonos Playbar, Sonos Playbase, or Sonos Beam if you want to improve your audio bar setup with surround speakers. Build Quality

This speaker has good build quality. Its upper and lower sides are made of plastic while the metal grille covers most of the front-facing sides of the speaker, making it sound solid. Like the Sonos Five, it is advertised to withstand high humidity conditions such as a shower with running shower. However, it does not have an IP rating for dust and water resistance, and it does not currently test the speaker's water resistance.

Answering Accuracy Frequency

Slope -0.22
Std. Error. 2.96 dB
Low Frequency Extension 52.6 Hz
High-Frequency Extension 19.1 kHz

Update 05/28/2021: We also tested our audio tests after updating the speaker with the current 13.1 firmware. Its response results are now very similar to the Sonos One SL speaker in the same firmware.

The accuracy of the frequency response is respectable. It has a Trueplay tuning feature, which automatically allows the speaker in your room to measure how the sound is reflected on your walls and in the surrounding areas. With this feature turned on, it has a low noise profile, though it's hard to regain a thumpy low-bass. The rest of the range is quite limited, however, so the voices and instruments of leadership are still vague and still exist. You can also adjust its sound to your liking using its bass and treble adjustment

Differences Between Size and Variety

The Sonos One comes in two color palettes: 'Black' and 'White'. We've tested a variant of White, and you can see its label here. However, we expect the Blacks to do the same with our model. We also reviewed the second generation of this speaker. Sonos advertises that the difference between this generation and the previous one is to expand memory, add Bluetooth Low Energy for the first pairing with a speaker, and add a more powerful and updated processor. That said, no features have changed.

If you encounter any exceptions, please let us know in the comments and we will review our review.

Compared to Other Speakers

Sonos One Gen 2 is the second generation of Sonos One. Unlike Sonos Move or Sonos Five, it can be added to the Sonos audio bar setup if you want speakers around or it can be used alone. While it has a boomy sound profile, you can adjust it using its friend's app bass and moving slides. This speaker can only be used with a cable, and while you can't stream audio to it using Bluetooth, it has an Ethernet port so you can connect it to your home network. Sonos One has started a revolution. It was one of the first smart speakers that did not force users to choose between smartness and good sound quality (including both), and the first one that did not make users choose between Alexa and Google Assistant.

Or other than that, the Sonos One is an amazing speaker, and the most intelligent speaker on the market in 2021. In our time at home, we were consistently impressed with the sound quality in both standalone systems and stereo speakers and how the voice assistant integration continued to grow.
